Emergency Services serves many people and puts your donations to good use by passing them on to those who need them completely free of charge. Emergency Services is open from 1:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday 52 weeks a year, and we see 30 to 40 families each day we are open. Two weeks ago, we had a give away where families could come in have what ever they needed. It started at 9:00 a.m., but there were already about 10 families waiting at 7:30 a.m. This was just a furniture give away. Also during the last month, we sent a 53-foot trailer full of clothes and some furniture to an Indian reservation in South Dakota. What you donate does not go to waste. People who need it get it.
We would like to have another give away and send one or two more trailers out this summer. However, we cannot do this without your help. You can help us by going through your closets. When I did this last week, it took me about 10 minutes to come up with a large bag of clothes that I thought I might wear last winter and never did. The weather might be turning warm, but we are always in need of cold weather clothing. There are always people in need and some living on the streets of Colorado Springs who need winter clothing all the time.
We are always in your area. No item is too big or too small for us to pick-up. Call John at 667-0564 to schedule a pick-up. Most of the time you can arrange a next-day pick-up.
Our special needs in Emergency Services are baby items such as, cribs, playpens, high chairs, clothes, disposable diapers, etc. We will be having another baby shower in August 2007. The baby shower back in March was a huge success, so help us make August's even better.
We also need clothes, clothes, clothes, and more clothes! Also, we need hygiene items, large and small bottles, razors, men and women's deodorant; we never have enough of these. Other hygiene items we are in need of are toothpaste and toothbrushes and used pill bottles (in which we put shampoo and conditioner).
Remember, by donating to the Springs Rescue Mission you are also donating to Jesus Christ, whom we gladly serve every day.
