History

HistoryAt Springs Rescue Mission we make a difference in people's lives every day. Our daily mission is to transform broken lives with the good news of Jesus Christ.

We serve the hungry and homeless, the working poor and struggling families, the indigent and addicted by ministering to the whole person. Our purpose is to create a safety net so no one in Colorado Springs is left without hope and help.

History of Helping those in Need

In 1996 our founders began providing sandwiches to homeless people in parks and under bridges in Colorado Springs. At the same time they began taking young homeless couples into their homes to give them a head start on life-change. Soon after, a food pantry was opened in one room of a small building and God blessed and multiplied their efforts to help less fortunate neighbors.

This small beginning rapidly grew into a wide range of services to poor and homeless people in Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region.

1997: New Life Program (NLP) for men started; SRM moved to current location at 5 West Las Vegas Street.
1998: First men's homes opened. Adult Learning Center opens; 5 West Las Vegas property purchased.
2002: 1 West Las Vegas Street property donated; warehouse donation receiving expanded, services to the community expanded.
2003: Opened Samaritan's Kitchen to serve more meals to the hungry and homeless.
2004: NLP doubled bed space to help more men in need of change.
2005: Eclipsed one million meals served; expanded food pantry to feed more hungry people.
2006: Became second largest emergency food distributor in Colorado Springs, expanded emergency services to the community.
2007: Received grant towards purchase of 11 W. Las Vegas St., started construction on the Life Recovery Center.
2008: Reformed approach to serve the growing need, began plans for campus environment to better serve the poor in our community.
2009: Construction on Life Recovery Center finished and actively integrated into SRM daily activities as a viable program source for those seeking a positive change in life. Culinary Program expanded to offer more opportunities for those in recovery. A weekly increase in services and hours to the hungry, homeless, and working poor integrated into daily activates.
2010: Marked our 15th year "Elevating Lives in the Pikes Peak Region." Created NeighborBase to make it easier for neighbors to help neighbors in the Pikes Peak Region.  Worked on Strategic Partnerships to bring a "holistic" approach to meeting the needs in our area.

As the years progressed, God supplied the resources to help more and more people. Our programs now include:
