Your donation to Springs Rescue Mission is an investment in the lives of real people who can make a real difference in the world. The 10 people on this list demonstrate the incredible potential people have when they receive the support they need to thrive.

You may never know just how far your generosity can go, but these stories show the profound impact your support can have.

At Springs Rescue Mission, we see firsthand how investing in people — in matters of faith, relationship, and finance — can truly transform their lives. These inspiring stories show that your investment in someone could go a lot farther than you may think.

Chris Gardner – Entrepreneur and Author

Chris Gardner’s story, which inspired the film The Pursuit of Happyness, is a powerful example of overcoming homelessness. Living in shelters with his young son, Gardner never gave up on his dream. Today, he is a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist who dedicates much of his life to helping others achieve their dreams.

Steve Harvey – Comedian, TV Host, and Author

Steve Harvey lived in his car for three years, trying to make it as a comedian. Through faith, community, and perseverance, he became one of the most successful TV hosts in the world. Today, Harvey helps others through scholarships and mentorships.

Ella Fitzgerald – Jazz Singer

Ella Fitzgerald, often referred to as the "First Lady of Song," experienced homelessness as a child after her mother's death. She was raised in poverty and lived in orphanages and foster homes. Fitzgerald's early life was marked by hardship. She credits her eventual success to the support of people who believed in her talent and her faith.

Jewel– Singer-Songwriter

Before becoming a successful musician, Jewel lived in her car while trying to break into the music scene. She relied on her faith, inner strength, and the support of her community to overcome homelessness and financial instability. Jewel now actively helps young people and advocates for mental health and homelessness through her own foundation.

Oprah Winfrey – Media Mogul

Oprah spent parts of her childhood in foster homes and was homeless during her teenage years. However, through sheer determination, support from others, and faith in God, she turned her life around and became a media mogul and philanthropist. Her foundation helps young women from marginalized communities break out of poverty cycles.

Shania Twain – Country Singer and Songwriter

Shania Twain’s rise to fame wasn’t easy. After her parents divorced, she lived in poverty with her mother and siblings, and at times, they were homeless. Twain credits her success to faith and the kindness of those around her who helped her family get back on their feet.

Denzel Washington – Actor and Humanitarian

Denzel Washington faced many struggles during his youth, including homelessness. He often speaks about how his faith and belief in God helped him through some of his most difficult times. Now, as one of Hollywood's most respected actors and philanthropists, Washington uses his influence to support education, mentorship, and outreach programs.

Tyler Perry – Filmmaker and Entrepreneur

Tyler Perry’s rise to fame was preceded by years of struggle, including homelessness. He lived in his car while trying to get his work produced, but through his faith, relentless determination, and help from those around him, he eventually built a media empire. Today, Perry uses his success to give back to those in similar circumstances.

Sylvester Stallone – Actor and Director

Before finding success with Rocky, Stallone struggled financially and was living in poverty. At one point, he was so broke that he had to sell his dog, Butkus, to make ends meet. He even spent a period of time living in a bus station. Despite these hardships, Stallone's perseverance and belief in his dreams eventually led to his breakthrough and success.

Your Investment Makes a Difference
