Called to Make a Difference

Then the King will say to those on his right, "Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world."Matthew 25:34-36 As the body of Christ, the Church, we are the hands and feet of Christ. We can’t turn away from the needs of the body. The works of mercy are simple deeds; and yet in these simple deeds, we all can serve Jesus every day. These acts are not dependent on our ability or wealth; they are simple acts freely given and freely received.We are children of the Kingdom and one of the signs of Kingdom children is their concern for those in need. Serving God’s people in need transforms us into the image of Christ. It’s not that we’re saved because we show kindness to those in need; rather, it’s the other way around. When we’re truly children of God, then we’ll show kindness to those in need.We serve God by serving His people. Christ taught that being His follower demands personal involvement helping the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick and the offender. Let’s dedicate the remainder of our lives to this mission.There are many ways we can live out this mission. Volunteer with your local school district to assist in the needs of our students. Give someone those clothes we haven’t worn that still have new tags after a year. Join a local church prison ministry, push past your fears and visit people in the hospital, or be an advocate for homelessness initiatives. Let’s come together and serve our community with a spirit of love.
