Springs Rescue Mission:

What's Happening at Springs Rescue Mission? February 2021

Janine celebrating her graduation from the HOPE Program, symbolizing her journey from homelessness to stable work and housing.

The last few months have been a whirlwind of activity at Springs Rescue Mission! We're celebrating the fact that Samaritan Coffee at 225 is open once again, plus our guests weathered truly brutal temperatures. And thanks to your support, the campus is very nearly finished!

Here are a few highlights from January and February:

Historic low temperatures hit the Pikes Peak region

Winter weather seems to be especially harsh this year! During Valentine's weekend, Colorado Springs temperatures plunged to the lowest they'd been in over 120 years. Springs Rescue Mission did everything we could to make sure the most vulnerable in our city were well-cared for, including extending our day center hours and opening other facilities. This allowed us to minimize guest's exposure to the elements while still maintaining social distancing.

UCCS students hold quarterly foot clinic

foot clinic

In mid-February, UCCS students held their quarterly foot clinic for the guests at Springs Rescue Mission. The group served 27 guests and also brought more than 200 pairs of shoes they had collected during a shoe drive! Guests were thrilled to have their feet looked after, especially during the brutal cold of the weekend. We are grateful to everyone who made this possible!

SRM campus is nearing completion

welcome center

Just over five years ago, Springs Rescue Mission launched an ambitious capital campaign called the "Community of Hope." Since then, with your support, we've increased our capacity to 450 beds, completed a Resource Center to provide access to essential services and opened a 185-seat kitchen and dining room. Now, the time has come to put a capstone on this project. Read more about the changes coming to the SRM campus here.
